I am happy to announce that I am currently co-authoring a book with historian Anthony Rhys on the patients of Glamorgan County Lunatic Asylum.
'Angelton: Asylum Lives' tells the stories of thirty women and child patients of The Glamorgan County Asylum from the 1880s to the middle of the 20th century.
The stories cover how and why these people ended up as patients, what happened to them in the asylum and what became of their lives when they did, or did not, leave.
The patient’s case notes and photographs are used alongside original research to uncover the lives of these forgotten individuals.
Their lives include tragedy, resilience, abuse and poverty. Their untold stories reflect the hardships faced in everyday society and the effect poor mental health had on them and the people closest to them.
